What is Reiki?

Reiki. I’ve heard of it before, but I never understood what it was. I was always told to stay away from it because it was evil and part of the psychic world that should never be touched.

Well, one day I found myself at a low point in my life and I had tried everything to make myself feel better, religion, positive thinking, making myself busy in a hobby, and talking to friends or family. While all these things are wonderful, nothing made me feel whole, complete or content.

I was in search of something, but I didn’t know what.

I found a class called Finding Your Path and I thought, “well, I’m looking for my path. I’ll go check it out”.

I met a wonderful person named Suzanne and at the end when we were saying goodbye, she asked me if I wanted to take a Reiki class with her. I thought for a moment and said “Sure!”

I still didn’t know what it was, but something inside me just said yes. And I’m so grateful I did.

I showed up for my first Reiki class and learned that it began in Japan as a healing modality. Dr. Mikao Usui was on a personal healing journey when he gained the wisdom of Reiki and began teaching it to others. It has since spread across the world with many people learning Reiki.

Reiki means Universal Life Force Energy. This energy flows through All Things - living and non-living. Energy is the basis of all matter and life, encompassing the earth, water, plants, animals, rocks, and everyday stuff such as food, clothing, houses, buildings, and other material things. Energy is in Everything.

Reiki uses this Life Energy of the highest frequency which is Divine Love.

Therefore, Reiki is Divine Love.

Divine Love heals all things.

Reiki taps into this Divine Love Energy, flowing into the top of the head, down the neck, into the arms and out the hands to help bring about healing to the client receiving Reiki.

The energy flows this way naturally. Each person has their own energy field that flows into the top of their head, down the body, out the groin area towards the feet, curving back up again to connect to the head. It’s like a big circle or ball of energy surrounding each of us. Our Energy Field.

Intuition helps guide where the flow of Reiki (Divine Love) energy should go and can help rebalance and decongest stuck or stagnant energy. Using intuition, I can assess what is going on in my client’s body and apply appropriate healing measures or refer out to another appropriate method of care.

I find such beauty in this because Reiki is all positive and doesn’t know negativity or evil as I was once told. Ever since my first Reiki class, I fell in love with it. Reiki has had a profound change in my perspective on life, myself and what I was doing on a daily basis. Finding this modality set me on my path and true calling in this life. After many years of searching, I finally found who I was, what my purpose is and what I’m here to share with others.

Through Reiki, I have been able to:

  • Heal myself by working through and releasing my emotional issues, past traumas, hurts and pains

  • Heal my physical body pains

  • Lose stress weight

  • Change my negative thought processes to more positive thought processes

  • Set up healthy boundaries with people, places and things

  • Learn more about myself, my skills and gifts to share with others

During this journey, I’ve allowed myself to become more aware of my intuitive abilities as well. Also known as Clair senses. More on that in another post.
